We're Here to Help!

In 2010, Dr. Kazmer was featured in Cary Living Magazine when he gave a deserving patient free treatment. Today, pages of the magazine article are on display in our Office Manager Angela’s office.

There is something about those photos that makes them memorable. The smile on the patient’s face after treatment says it all – it is obvious that she is thrilled to be able to show off her new smile.

That is the wonderful thing about periodontics. Every day, our staff gets to help people. Seeing the smiles of happy patients is so rewarding.

However, periodontics is a rewarding field of practice for more than cosmetic reasons. While we are working to make smiles more beautiful, we are also improve the state of a patient’s  oral health. This is important for many reasons. For one, gum disease has been linked to other medical problems and can lead to tooth loss and bone damage. Also, dental problems can make it difficult to eat. By enabling patients to eat, smile, and talk without concern, we are improving their quality of life.

I (Maya, the Social Media Coordinator here at Kazmer Perio) experienced first hand the impact that the work of Dr. Kazmer and the rest of the staff can have when I received a dental implant in May of 2016.

Before receiving my implant, I managed to get by with solutions that were certainly workable, but not always the most comfortable or practical. After getting my braces off, a fake tooth was placed on my retainer. It was aesthetically pleasing, but every time I took my retainer out to eat, the spot where I was missing a tooth became visible to those around me.

I later had a Maryland bridge placed in the space. This bridge was not easily removable, so it was always in my mouth, even when I ate. It solved the problem of having to take my retainer in and out each time I wanted to eat, but I had to be careful. I could not bite with my front teeth, with the exception of some soft foods. Over the years, I began experiencing problems; the tooth popped off repeatedly and the bridge eventually broke.

Having a dental implant placed solved this issue completely. Since the implant was placed into my jaw bone, I no longer have to worry about having a tooth that comes in and out. Also, it’s strong enough for me to bite into anything that I want. The fact that the crown of the implant (the part that looks like a tooth) looks incredibly natural is icing on the cake!

Being able to have a lasting impact on patients that improves their life is one aspect of periodontics that makes it so worthwhile.
